595558 Disclosed is an engineered wood fire resistant barrier for building construction. The barrier comprises two insulation layers each comprising an engineered wood material; and a refractory layer between the two insulation layers, the refractory layer comprising refractory oxide material. The engineered wood material has a thermal resistance R-value of greater than 0.44 m2*K/(W*in), is substantially moisture resistant and comprises medium density fibreboard. The engineered wood material has a nominal density of between 600kg/m3 and 700kg/m3. The refractory material is selected from the set of refractory materials comprising aluminium oxide, silicon oxide and magnesium oxide.
