The accumulator (1) has a storage unit filled with a storage medium and including regions at different temperature. The storage unit comprises a region (3) whose temperature is lower than temperature of a second region (2), where the first region is connected with heat receiving side of the heat pump. The second region is connected with a heat delivering side of the heat pump, and the first and second regions are adjacently arranged. The adjacently arranged regions are physically disconnected from each other by partition walls. An independent claim is also included for a method for storing energy in form of heat energy by a storage medium.
