PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus in which false focusing is avoided so as to perform further accurate focus detection.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus which performs focus detection in a phase difference system, includes: an imaging element (106) including a focus detection area for outputting a pair of image signals having parallax; calculation means (109) for obtaining an image deviation amount indicative of a focusing state in each of a partial area, which is set in the focus detection area, and the focus detection area on the basis of a result of a correlation operation of the pair of image signals obtained from the focus detection area; determination means (109) for determining that a focusing state in the partial area is a false focusing state when a difference between an image deviation amount in the partial area and an image deviation amount in the focus detection area is equal to or larger than a predetermined threshold value; and focusing control means (109) for executing focusing control on the basis of the image deviation amount of the partial area when the difference is smaller than the threshold value. |
