PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate protective film for a large liquid crystal display device which will not impair the optical properties of conventional films, and to provide a polarizing plate, and a liquid crystal display device using the polarizing plate.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a roll of cellulose ester film with a width of 1,500-4,000 mm, a modulus of elasticity in a width direction larger than a modulus of elasticity in a longitudinal direction, Rt of 15-70 nm, and Ro of 0-15 nm includes the step of rolling an original fabric cellulose ester film containing a compound having a negative birefringence including a compound represented by general formula (1-1) below by 15-50% in the width direction.
