PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining a position error of a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tool.SOLUTION: A CNC machine tool includes a calibration element. A method for determining the position error of the CNC machine tool includes: a step of reading first sensor data corresponding to a distance between a point on the surface of the calibration element and at least one sensor from at least one sensor while the calibration element is present at a first position; a step of operating the CNC machine tool to execute a calibrating motion such that the calibration element ideally remains at the first position; a step of reading second sensor data from at least one sensor while the calibration element is present at a second position showing the actual position of the calibration element after the calibrating motion is executed; a step of moving at least one sensor such that a difference between the first sensor data and the second sensor data is reduced to a predetermined threshold or less; and a step of determining the position error of the CNC machine tool on the basis of the movement of at least one sensor.
