PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a catalyst that exerts high methane decomposition capability even at low temperature (especially at 400°C or lower, and further 375°C or lower) in a method for oxidizing and removing methane in a processed gas including methane and excessive oxygen; and an oxidation removing method of methane in the processed gas using the catalyst.SOLUTION: A catalyst is to remove methane in a processed gas including methane and excessive oxygen, the catalyst comprises supporting platinum, iridium and tantalum to at least one carrier chosen from a group consisting of a zirconium oxide carrier, a tin oxide carrier, and a titanium oxide carrier, and a method oxidizes and removes the methane in the processed gas including the methane and excessive oxygen. The method comprises contacting the processed gas to the catalyst at a temperature of 300-600°C. |
