The collision avoidance system (1) has multiple ultrasonic transducers (2) mounted at a vehicle or at a trailer associated with vehicle. A control unit (3) is connected to the ultrasonic transducers. The control unit is arranged to emit an ultrasonic wave (5) from the ultrasonic transducer, on receiving a signal that indicates an operation of a brake system presented in the vehicle. The ultrasonic wave emitted from the ultrasound transducer of another vehicle is received and recognized by the control unit. A corresponding signal is outputted to another control unit (4) of the former vehicle.
