PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing charging associating with the surface of a latent image carrier passing through a transfer position, and reducing the size and costs of the apparatus.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a latent image carrier 2 that carries a latent image on the surface thereof; charging means 3 for charging the surface of the latent image carrier 2; latent image forming means 6 for forming a latent image on a charging surface of the latent image carrier 2 charged by the charging means 3; developing means 4 for supplying developer to the latent image on the latent image carrier 2 formed by the latent image forming means 6 to form a developer image; and transfer means 9 for transferring the developer image on the latent image carrier 2 formed by the developing means 4 to an intermediate transfer body 8 by a transfer electric field. When a non-charged surface of the latent image carrier 2 that is not charged to a predetermined charge potential by the charging means 3 passes through a transfer position of the transfer means 9, intensity of the transfer electric field is controlled to be reduced than that during transfer of a developing image. |
