DIFFERENTIATION OF PRIMATE PLURIPOTENT STEM CELL TO CARDIOMYOCYTE-LINEAGE CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To describe a new method for differentiating a primate pluripotent stem cell to a cardiomyocyte-lineage cell.SOLUTION: A cardiomyocyte-lineage cell is formed by using a sequential culture of a primate pluripotent stem cell in a specific growth factor. The population of cells produced by the sequential culturing is further enriched for cardiomyocyte-lineage cells so as to produce a higher percentage of those cells. For example, a method for producing a cardiomyocyte-lineage cell from a human embryo stem (hES) cell, includes (a) a step to culture the hES cell in the presence of activin A and in the absence of BMP; and then (b) a step to culture the cell in the presence of BMP.
