A flame retardant resin composition which is obtained by using a plant-derived raw material and excellent in flame retardancy, heat resistance and impact resistance, and a molded article thereof. The flame retardant resin composition comprises: (A) 100 parts by weight of a resin component (component A) containing at least 50 wt % of polylactic acid (component A-1); (B) 1 to 100 parts by weight of an organic phosphorus compound represented by the following formula (1) (component B); (C) 1 to 200 parts by weight of a filler (component C); and (D) 1 to 100 parts by weight of an impact resistance modifier (component D). (In the above formula, X1 and X2 are the same or different and each an aromatic substituted alkyl group represented by the following formula (2): ALAr)n(2) (In the above formula, AL is a branched or linear alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, Ar is a phenyl group, naphthyl group or anthryl group all of which may have a substituent, "n" is an integer of 1 to 3, and Ar may be bonded to any carbon atom contained in AL.))
