The present invention provides a lithium secondary battery comprising an electrode assembly and an electrolyte, wherein the electrode assembly includes a cathode, an anode, and a separator disposed between the cathode and the anode. The lithium secondary battery of the present invention is characterized in that the cathode includes, as a cathode active material, a lithium manganese composite oxide having a spinel structure, expressed by the following formula 1: LixMyMn2-yO4-zAz (1) where, 0.9<=x<=1.2; 0<y<2; 0<=z<0.2; M is one or more atoms selected from the group consisting of Al, Mg, Ni, Co, Fe, Cr, V, Ti, Cu, B, Ca, Zn, Zr, Nb, Mo, Sr, Sb, W, Ti, and Bi; and A is one or more monovalent or divalent anions. The lithium secondary battery is further characterized in that the cut-off voltage for charging ranges from 3.3 to 4 V, and the anode voltage when the voltage reaches the cut-off voltage ranges from 0.75 to 1.545 V while the cathode voltage is less than 4.95 V. |
