Nut comprising a nut body (12) that is or can be provided with an internal thread (22) and has a polygonal section (38) with a polygonal outer contour (40) which has edge regions (42) and key faces (44) that are located between the edge regions and extend in standard key face planes (46). In order to optimize said nut and a method for the production thereof in such a way that the nut has mechanical properties which are as optimal as possible while having a weight which is as low as possible, the nut body has a plurality of recesses (60) that extend from the respective key face planes into the nut body in the direction of the bore (20).
