PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique by which deterioration of brightness of an entire screen, and occurrence of black floating can be suppressed in a display device in which light emission luminance of backlight for each division area is controlled so as to improve contrast of a displayed image.SOLUTION: A display device of the present invention includes: acquisition means for acquiring a feature quantity for each division area; discrimination means for discriminating whether or not, for each division area, an image displayed in the division area includes a small-area high-luminance area; determination means for determining a light emission luminance for each division area; a backlight controlled so that, for each division area, light emission is performed at a light emission luminance determined by the determination means; and a display panel. The determination means sets the light emission luminance of the division area which is determined not to include the small-area high-luminance area to a light emission luminance corresponding to the feature quantity of the divided area, and sets the light emission luminance of a division area which is determined to include the small-area high-luminance area to a light emission luminance lower than the light emission luminance corresponding to the feature quantity of the divided area. |
