PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direction detector capable of accurately detecting and distinguishing between a first direction along any one of the four sides of a square lattice and a second direction not along any one of the four sides of a square lattice, with four photodetectors arranged in a square lattice form.SOLUTION: In a signal processing part 2, the signal detection timings of detection signals respectively inputted from photodetectors 11a to 11d are defined as a first, a second, a third, and a fourth detection timing sequentially from the earliest time, and the ratio of a second difference time obtained by subtracting the second detection timing from the third detection timing to a first difference time obtained by subtracting the first detection timing from the fourth detection timing is calculated for every algorithm. The maximum is selected from the calculation results. When the maximum calculation result is below a first threshold, the movement direction of a hand H is determined to be in a first direction. When the maximum calculation result is equal to or higher than the first threshold, the movement direction of the hand H is determined to be in a second direction. |
