PURPOSE: A protection switching method in an optical transport network and an apparatus for the same are provided to provide a protection switching function for every flexible optical channel data unit in the optical transport network. CONSTITUTION: A first transmitting unit (210) maps an inputted signal in multiple first optical channels. The first transmitting unit transmits a mapped signal to a reception node. The multiple first optical channels are composed by flexible optical channel data units within an optical wavelength of a working channel. A protection switching control unit (212) switches only a first optical channel in which a failure occurs among the first optical channels of the working line with a spare line. A first reception unit (310) detects the first optical channel in which the failure occurs among the multiple first optical channels of the working line.
