Provided is an inverter circuit capable of reducing loss generated in the semiconductor elements thereof on start-up. A DC power source series circuit (30) comprises a switching element (Q1) and a switching element (Q2) connected in series and comprises a DC power source (Psp) and a DC power source (Psn) connected in series. An inverter circuit (4) is connected with both ends of this DC power source series circuit (30). The inverter circuit (4) comprises an AC output terminal (U) connected with the connection point of the switching element (Q1) and the switching element (Q2); an AC output terminal (V) connected with the connection point of the DC power source (Psp) and the DC power source (Psn); a bidirectional switching element (S1) whereof one end is connected with the AC output terminal (U) and the other end is connected with a terminal (R) of an AC power source (1); and a bidirectional switching element (S2) whereof one end is connected with the AC output terminal (U) and the other end is connected with a terminal (S) of the AC power source (1). The bidirectional switching elements (S1, S2) are alternately turned ON/OFF on start-up.
