The dishwasher has a rinsing container providing a rinsing chamber. A spray arm (1) is rotatably mounted in the rinsing container. The spray arm includes spray nozzles for delivery of a rinsing medium. A wide-ranging spray pattern produced by the spray nozzles is adjustably designed based on a temperature of a rinsing medium. A guide element (4) is movably arranged in the spray arm. An actuator (5) such as a thermal actuator i.e. expanding element, is arranged at the guide element. An over-lifting spring (6) e.g. helical spring, is arranged at the actuator. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a spray arm for a dishwasher.
