PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To have a shape capable of holding a light guide plate with strength within a fixed range in a narrow area without increasing the size of an illumination unit, and hold the light guide plate with strength within a fixed range while maintaining the thin shape of the entire illumination unit.SOLUTION: An illumination unit irradiates an irradiation area with light from a light-emitting device 502 through a light guide plate 504, and includes a cover member 505. The cover member 505 is folded by 180 degrees at the end part on an emission surface side of light from the light-emitting device 502 of the cover member 505. One or more folded parts 505A that protrude toward the light guide plate 504 side are provided in the folded area. The light guide plate 504 is then pressed by these folded parts 505A to determine a position of the light guide plate 504.
