The invention relates to a portable electronic sensor for detecting volatile amines in the exploration of the female genital tract in order to enable early diagnosis of diseases of the female genital tract, such as sexually transmitted and infectious diseases, being a portable medical device which, during a gynaecological examination, is capable of detecting by means of a sensor the volatile amines which are produced in a whiff test or by reaction of the amines with 10 % potassium hydroxide, which only occurs in diseased states due to alterations of the vaginal flora caused by pathogenic germs displacing the lactobacillus that protect said flora, leading to physical and chemical changes that make this test positive. Currently, the fishy smell caused by the volatile amines is detected by the sense of smell of the doctor, and the result is thus ambiguous and varies from one doctor to another. In addition, it is unpleasant for a patient to see the doctor perform the action of smelling the sample taken from her vagina, which causes psychological unease during the exploration. The medical device disclosed herein facilitates and determines exactly the result of the whiff test, without involving any actions that might make the patient uncomfortable. The device is portable, easy to handle and yields reliable results in real time, making it possible in a single visit, without sending away samples or other lab studies, to carry out various actions against the detected diseases, with low financial cost and ensuring the necessary comfort for the woman.
