PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which image density detection is previously started without waiting specification of the same position on a surface of a body of rotation to thereby reduce downtime.SOLUTION: After starting position specification substrate sampling for a first cycle, density adjustment control substrate sampling is started, thereafter, a density adjustment pattern 203 is formed, and further, position specification substrate sampling for a second cycle is started. A CPU 1201 specifies a first reference point P1 on a surface of an intermediate transfer belt 200 and a second reference point P2 in a subsequent cycle as the same position in a rotational direction, and associates an amount of 1000 data after lapse of time T from the first reference point P1 out of data by the density adjustment substrate sampling with density adjustment patch sampling so as to control a density of an image on the basis of the result. The density adjustment control substrate sampling for the first cycle is started before the reference points P1 and P2 are specified as the same position. |
