The present invention relates to flood prevention. In particular, it provides a flood prevention system comprising: a water sensor positioned on the exterior wall of a building and approximately 1cm from ground level, and which when triggered activates an air pump which inflates an inflatable, impermeable flexible barrier; a microswitch, positioned approximately 1m from ground level, whereby when the barrier has reached full inflation, it presses against the switch and thereby deactivates the pump. The advantage of the system is that it is completely automatic and requires no manual labour to function. It may be installed in both new and old buildings where there is a high risk of being flooded and is built to withstand typical European floods of up to 50cm in depth.
