A downhole turbo pump (non-positive displacement pump) comprises at least two motors 29 each driving one or more pump stages 6. Each motor 29, with the stages 6 it drives, is known as a pump step 7. Each pump step 7 has an inner casing 9, which is mounted eccentrically within an outer casing 8. The pump steps 7 may have a spacer or distance piece 30 comprising lead-through holes for cables etc. The radial offset of the pump steps 7 within the outer casing 8 provides space for cables within a minimum overall diameter. The space between the pump steps 7 and the casing 8 may be filled with a fluid such as dielectric oil, which may be in pressure communication with the surrounding fluid. Axial motors 29 or ring motors (13, figure 2) may be used. |
