A hurley boss cover (1) is of a latex rubber material, in the form of an envelope for covering the ground-contacting part of a hurley. It comprises sheets of rubber (2,3) joined at a seam (4) to present a mouth (5) for receiving the hurley boss. The overall configuration is crescent-shaped. The thickness of the sleeve material is sufficient to protect both the hurley and any surface that it contacts, in addition to reducing risk of injury. Advantageously, the hurley may be used outdoors in a conventional manner by simply removing the cover. This avoids the need to provide special flexible hurleys for indoor use, and also provides a more realistic indoor training experience.
