A system 10 for harvesting biological samples comprising a first multi-well plate 12 configured to support the growth of individual material 30, 32 within one or more of first wells 16, and a second multi-well plate 14 configured to couple with the first plate and receive a portion 34 of each of the individual material within one or more second wells 22. The first wells may include at least one sidewall (40; fig 5) extending from an edge of the plate to a support member (42; fig 5) wherein the support member defines an opening, and a conduit (44; fig 5) extends from the support member. A method for harvesting biological samples comprises providing first and second complimentary multi-well plates wherein both plates have one or more wells, growing individual material within the first plate such that at least some of the material extends into one or more of the wells of the second plate; separating the individual biological material into first and second portions; and providing at least some of the second portion of the individual biological material into the second plate wells while maintaining at least some of the first portion within the first plate wells. Ideally, the biological material is plant.
