The invention relates to a recording apparatus and an ink cartridge. The ink cartridge comprises a body including a front side in an installation direction and a rear side facing the front side. The body includes an ink supply portion for supplying ink from an ink chamber to the outside. The ink cartridge comprises a first detection portion at the front side detectable during installation of the ink cartridge into a cartridge installation portion. The ink cartridge comprises a second detection portion at the front side detectable during the installation process. The ink cartridge comprises a remaining amount detection portion closer to the rear side than the first and second detection portions detectable when the ink cartridge is installed in the cartridge installation portion.
