516,948. Air preheaters. STANWORTH, S., and STANWORTH, J. Aug. 3, 1938, No. 22900. [Class 64 (i)] Air supplied under pressure to a gas-fired furnace F for melting or heating metals is passed between a heat-resisting metal tube H and a refractory core J formed with radial passages j leading to a passage j<2> entering the furnace tangentially, and the products of combustion escape from the furnace through an opening d to an annular space M between the tube H and a casing K. The tube is suspended in the casing by a bolt h' surrounded by a spring h'. The reduced top h of the tube slides in a cap k<2> to which the-air supply pipe L is connected. The valves controlling the air and gas supplies are connected by links which may be adjusted to so set the valves that they supply the correct proportions of gas and air. |
