<p>An external rear view mirror assembly to be fitted to a motor vehicle is disclosed. The assembly comprises: a mirror base 20 mountable to a vehicle; a mirror head frame 30 rotatably mounted to the base 20 for rotation about a mirror head axis 32; a detent operably interposed between the base 20 and the frame 30; a spring acting 58 between the frame 30 and the base 20 in a direction parallel to the axis 32, the spring 58 for holding the detent 30 engaged; and a power fold mechanism 60 operably interposed between the base 20 and the frame 30, the power fold mechanism 30 having a drive train 70 and a clutch mechanism, the clutch mechanism comprising a pair of axially spaced apart clutching faces 29, 96 connecting the drive train 70 to the base 20 when the drive train 70 is driving, the clutch mechanism arranged and constructed such that forces are not transmitted from the frame 30 to the drive train 70 when the drive train 70 is not driving.</p> |
