<p>Airflow control apparatus is provided for use with a vehicle grille element 1. The grille 1 typically has a mesh with a regular pattern of apertures 2 which may be hexagonal. The apparatus comprises a support 20 for mounting behind the grille 1, having at least one through aperture for airflow, and airflow control elements 21 mounted such that each airflow control element is alignable with a respective grille aperture 2. An actuator (41 see fig 3) may move the airflow control elements 21 between a retracted position behind or partially within the apertures 2 and an extended wherein they extend further through the apertures 2 so as to affect airflow. They may protrude from or block the apertures 2 in the extended position. The elements 21 may also provide a desirable visual effect at the front of the vehicle (30 see fig 3) and may be tapered.</p> |
