The device has a cooking chamber (1) for receiving food. A steam generator (4) supplies steam into the chamber. A microwave generator (11) heats the food. A hot air generator (12) and/or resistive upper and lower heaters (5a, 5b) heat the chamber. A control (10) automatically activates the steam generator, the microwave generator, the hot air generator and/or the heaters within a cooking process for cooking the food based on an inputted cooking program. The control automatically changes an operating parameter e.g. efficiency, of the generators during operation.
