The device has a trolley (21), which carries a camera (22) and is driven in two movement directions along the rope- or rail assembly. A data cable (3) is connected with the camera and is guided to a cable drum (2) by the trolley along one of two movement directions. A rope (4) is guided to same cable drum by the trolley away in the direction of the other movement direction along the rope- or rail assembly. The data cable and the rope are wound on the cable drum in opposite directions, so that the data cable together with the rope forms a circumferential rope.
