A rectilinear fan/compressor

A rectilinear fan or compressor configuration in which a series of blades or aerofoils are placed next to each other on a continuous track 18 to form a rectilinear cascade arrangement 11 that moves linearly y in a direction normal to the direction of the incoming flow x. Preferably driving wheel(s) (16,fig.2) rotates, a rectilinear movement is induced to the continuous track so that the blades of the cascade are also displaced linearly in the y axis and normal to the direction of the incoming flow in the x-axis. There may also be additional moving or stationary cascade arrangements position upstream and/or down stream of the continuous track. Tensioner or idle wheels (27, fig.2) may be included to support the track or belt.
