Process for the prodn. of shaped ceramic articles, esp. fibres, contg. silicon carbide, comprises (a) shaping an organosilicon polymer ceramic precursor (I) into the desired form; (b) hardening the shaped polymer by reaction with at least one protonated nucleophilic agent (II) at 20-400 deg C and (c) pyrolysing the hardened polymer in the absence of the nucleophilic agent (II).
