摘要 PURPOSE: A surface distress prediction apparatus of a hot rolled coil and a method thereof are provided to calculate a component analysis index by multiplying content of Cu, Sn and S of molten steel and to extract a surface distress index by substituting the component analysis index into an equation. CONSTITUTION: An edge defect prediction apparatus of a hot rolled coil includes a storage unit and a central processing unit(150). The storage unit stores an amount of components of molten steel being casted. The central processing unit calculates a component analysis index(CAI) by multiplying an amount of Cu, Sn and S stored in the storage unit, extracts a surface distress index(SDI) by substituting the calculated component analysis index to the following equation and predicts a degree of generation of the surface distress of the rolled coil by using the surface distress index. Equation SDI=alpha*e^(beta*CAI), where alpha is the coefficient between 0.02 to 0.04, beta is the coefficient between 0.7 to 0.8.
