PURPOSE: An electric bicycle having a function for preventing sudden unintended acceleration and a control method thereof are provided to prevent accidents caused by sudden unintended acceleration by powering the electric bicycle only when a person sits down on a saddle. CONSTITUTION: An electric bicycle having a function for preventing sudden unintended acceleration comprises a frame (1), front and rear wheels (5, 7), a steering part (7), pedals (9), a power transfer part (11), a drive moor (13), a drive lever (15), a control part, and a torque sensor. The steering part is coupled to the front wheel and the frame. The power transfer part transfers the driving force from the pedals to the rear wheel. The drive motor is installed on the shaft of the rear wheel and powers the rear wheel. The control part controls the drive motor by receiving an operation signal from the drive lever. The torque sensor senses torque applied to the shaft of the rear wheel when a person sits down on a saddle (27). |
