The method involves imposing a rate of change of voltage in a current generator based on individual characteristics of current if measurement voltage on an on-board network is outside a target voltage range. Another rate of change of voltage in the current generator is selected according to characteristics of individual power consumers such that voltage operating within a target range is reached if the measurement voltage is inside the target voltage range.
