PURPOSE: An inter-train communication-based adaptive train collision prevention (ATCP) system and an ATCP method simplify the structure and process of a train control system by providing a unified train protection system. CONSTITUTION: A communication-based ATCP system includes a location signal generator (30), a controller (10), and an RF module (40). The location signal generator informs about the current location of a train. The controller is installed in trains, outputs operation information including the current location signal received from the location signal generator and the current operation speed itself, and includes an operation information management unit (11) and an adaptive speed control pattern generator (12). The operation information management unit receives the operation information from other trains. The adaptive speed control pattern generator generates a speed control pattern of the train based on the received operation information of other trains. The RF module transmits the operation information outputted from the controller to other trains or receives the operation information from other trains located within a certain radius of the other communication and transmits the operation information to the operation information management unit of the controller.
