A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display having the same are provided to cool heat generated from an electrode of a lamp to secure temperature uniformity by positions of the lamp, and prevent thermal deformation to improve the picture quality of the liquid crystal display. A lamp(122) generates light. At least one heat transfer member(128) emits heat emitted from electrodes(124) of the lamp formed at ends of the lamp, to the outside. A bottom cover(130) contains the lamp and the heat transfer member, and emits the heat to the outside. Lamp holders(126) fix the ends of the lamp. The heat transfer member is inserted into insertion holes(126b) of the lamp holders, to be adjacent to the electrodes. |
