Mobile devices (200) and methods to facilitate the motion characterization of a welding element (110). A mobile device (200) is used to capture video of a rotating welding element (110) and the video is processed by a software application residing on the mobile device (200) to determine a rate of rotation of the rotating welding element (110). The software application may perform further processing to determine a linear rate of motion as derived from the determined rate of rotation. The rate of rotation and/or the linear rate of motion may be displayed to a user of the mobile device (200) on a display screen (220) of the mobile device (200). Such methods may aid a user in calibrating a piece of welding equipment. |
