The method involves detecting rotational speed of servomotor (3) and time-resolved signal correlated with rotational speed. The idle phase of the control process of electric motor, at which the servomotor overcomes the tolerance of adjusting mechanism (4) rotates without moving vehicle unit (2) is identified. The order of the idle rotation angle of the servomotor is adjusted. The rotational speed of engine and signal correlated with the rotational speed are determined to find test variable. The initial end of idle phase is identified when the test variable exceeds preset value. An independent claim is included for a positioning device for automatic movement of vehicle unit with servomotor.
