PURPOSE: A lipase inhibitor containing an Ecklonia cava ethyl acetate fraction or dieckol isolated from the fraction is provided to ensure thermal stability and pH stability and to be used in a pharmaceutical product and health foods for suppressing obesity. CONSTITUTION: A lipase inhibitor contains Ecklonia cava ethyl acetate fraction and dieckol as an active ingredient. A composition for suppressing obesity contains the fraction and dieckol as an active ingredient. A method for preparing the Ecklonia cava ethyl acetate fraction or dieckol isolated from the same comprises: a step of adding Ecklonia cava to a mixture solvent of water and C1-C4 alcohol and extracting at room temperature for 24 hours(three times); a step of centrifuging the extract and collecting supernatant; a step of filtering and concentrating the supernatant by reduced pressure; a step of suspending the Ecklonia cava ethanol extract in distilled water; a step of adding n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and butanol to the extract in order; and a step of concentrating and drying the fraction.
