PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel technique for joining a gas diffusion layer and an electrode catalyst layer while balancing water repellency and adhesiveness.SOLUTION: A unit cell 15 includes an anode gas diffusion layer 23 having a porous layer 23a that is made of PTFE with water repellency and that is joined to an anode 21. The porous layer 23a is formed so as to be larger than an electrode surface region FCr as a range in which the anode 21 and a cathode 22 face each other across an electrolyte membrane 20. An inner region 23ac, as a projection of the electrode surface region FCr on the porous layer 23a, has higher water repellency than a surrounding region 23ar that surrounds the inner region 23ac. The inner region 23ac and the surrounding region 23ar have different amounts of residue of a surfactant that is mixed into MPL paste for porous layer formation, and the surrounding region 23ar has a larger amount of residual surfactant remaining therein. |
