摘要 An object of the present invention is to provide an image processing apparatus and method for a self-propelled industrial machine, allowing an operator to properly recognize surrounding circumstances even if dust rises, when image data captured by an imaging part mounted on a self-propelled industrial machine are used for checking the security of the surroundings. From among respective pixels of the image data PD, a pixel having a brightness value higher than a brightness value for specifying dust is detected as a high-brightness pixel. One of the pixels of the image data PD is defined as a center pixel, and the center pixel is then detected as a non-edge pixel when a difference in brightness between the center pixel and a surrounding pixel is lower than a difference in brightness between the center pixel and a ground edge. An overlap pixel in which the high-brightness pixel overlaps the non-edge pixel is detected, and an overlap pixel area is defined as an area formed by the overlap pixel. Then, when the overlap pixel area is equal to or greater than an area for specifying as dust, the overlap pixel area is formed as a dust area DA, and a screen is drawn up to specify the dust area DA with respect to the image data PD.
