PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-tubular reactor in which when a substance is produced with an exothermic or endothermic reaction, the reaction can be controlled suitably so that formation of a hot spot or a cold spot may be prevented and to provide a method for designing the multi-tubular reactor.SOLUTION: A multi-tubular reactor 1 is configured such that a plurality of reaction tubes 10 and circular baffle plates 5 are housed in a cylindrical shell 2. The plurality of reaction tubes 10 are arrayed in triangular staggered arrangement. A thermometer 20 is attached to the reaction tube 10 in such a manner that some temperature-measurable reaction tubes 10m are prepared in the plurality of reaction tubes 10. When a straight line formed by connecting the center axis of the temperature-measurable reaction tube 10m to the center axis of the shell 2 is defined as a reference straight line BL and another straight line formed by connecting the center axis of the temperature-measurable reaction tube 10m to the center axis of an adjacent reaction tube 10n adjacent to the temperature-measurable reaction tube 10m is defined as a connection straight line CL on a cross section of the temperature-measurable reaction tube 10m, which section is perpendicular to the center axis of the shell 2, adjacent reaction tubes 10n are disposed so that an angle formed by the reference straight line BL and the connection straight line CL is within 0-15°. |
