The musical instrument string (1) has a cable core (2) formed of metal material with a coating, which comprises an intermediate layer (3) and a cladding layer (4). The intermediate layer is applied on the cable core and the cladding layer is applied on the intermediate layer. The intermediate layer is formed of nickel or nickel alloy. The cladding layer is formed of tin or tin alloy. The intermediate layer has a layer thickness of 0.2 micrometer to 0.5 micrometer. An independent claim is included for a method for manufacturing a musical instrument string.
