A liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display containing same. The liquid crystal composition comprises: a compound of general formula (I) which occupies 1%-50% of the total weight of the liquid crystal composition; a compound of general formula (II) which occupies 1%-60% of the total weight of the liquid crystal composition; a compound of general formula (III) which occupies 1%-60% of the total weight of the liquid crystal composition; and a compound of general formula (IV) which occupies 0-50% of the total weight of the liquid crystal composition. The liquid crystal composition has a suitably wider nematic phase scope, a suitable optical anisotropy, a favourable low-temperature storage stability and a faster response speed, and can be used for outdoor work, the image display effect is good, and there is no streaking phenomenon.
