The method involves connecting a piston of a combustion engine (1) operatively with a crankshaft (2) by a crank gear (3). A piston connecting rod (4) is supported at the piston and a crank pin (5) of the crankshaft. An eccentric cam (6) rotatable with respect to the crank pin is supported at the crank pin. The eccentric cam is driven with a large rotation speed to achieve an alternate lifting of the piston. The rotation speed of the eccentric cam is selected such that the piston is fixed in a region of a rotating point i.e. bottom dead center, over a specific period. An independent claim is also included for a combustion engine.
