The invention relates to a control system and method for a fleet of automated vehicles that travel along a road network, comprising: stationery and moving control devices, some of which are completely independent of the mechanisms and technologies used in the vehicles; and means for establishing communication between the control devices using open communication protocol means in some and closed protocols in others, in order to control the different variables involved in safe and efficient operation for the transport of people, cargo or both.
