The invention relates to a method for address initialization in a network (1) comprising a control entity (10) and at least one network element (101, 102, 103, 110). The network element is characterized by an identifier (1012, 1022). The control entity assigns an address to the network element on the basis of the characterizing identifier (1011, 1021, 1031). The identifier that characterizes the network element belongs to a set (100) of one or more possible identifiers, said set being known or communicated to the control entity.
