Disclosed is an LED device having a configuration wherein an LED element is sealed by means of a sealing material. This LED device includes an LED element, which is mounted on and electrically connected to a supporting body, and a sealing material, which is sealing the LED element. The sealing material is a transparent amorphous solid formed of a metal oxide, and the solid contains, as a main constituent element, at least one kind of metal oxide selected from among a group configured of Al2O3, MgO, ZrO, La2O3, CeO, Y2O3, Eu2O3, and ScO.
