The invention consists of a novel method for detecting the position of the hands of a driver and the physical device which carries out this method. From the images of the hands, as captured by a camera, this method makes it possible to predict a possible lack of attention of the driver and to send a warning message to the latter. The device can also be used to reproduce the causes of an accident or to train drivers.
